Learn How to Install a Prehung Door

Hanging a door these days is easier than its ever been. In the days before the pre-assembled door, more tools and knowledge  how to install a prehung door.

Imagine getting a slab door, a door jamb removed, hinges and door hardware and having to do all the mortising, drilling, recesses on the site.

You do not need a number of tools like a drill, a mortising jig for hinges, strikes, and bolt plate. No drilling template input the distance for the handle and bolt.

Now all you need is a gun hammer and nails hard and finish nails or wedges.

The first thing to do is check opening the door will be hooked to the correct size. There should be two "larger than the size of the door. Even if an opening in the wall should be reasonably plumb and square.

If the opening was framed by someone else, you can get your plaza level and the frame and check too. Drywallers sometimes believe the rough opening was done to them and let it flow into the opening in the drywall. If this is the case, use a drywall saw or sawzall to cut.

Once all vital signs were checked your ready to hang a door. A pair preassembled doors are mounted in different ways. They can be purchased with balance and strengthen already nailed on one side and unadorned. If no adjustment is installed, I like to put on before putting the door in the opening. The board is installed on the hinge side.

Most doors open into a room and into a wall. Putting the door into the opening, trying to put the door in the center of the opening. The amount of the door should be able to move left and right at the opening. The gap between the door and the jamb hinge side is usually about 1/8 "of an inch. This dictates the gap or space, you must have all around the door. Move the door jamb on the left or right until you have the same space at the top. then nail the molding on the side of the upper hinge and the lower hinge side. then nail the next strike up ensure you still have the same space. Nail out the rest of the hinge side with 3 or 4 other nails. two nails that are already on top are usually put everything. Now nail the rest of the strike side from top and work your way down, maintaining the same space that the top and side of the hinge.

Once the door is nailed into the opening on the inside, it's time to wedge the door jamb. First, pull the door closed to ensure that it reaches the door also stops at the strike side. If successful only at the top pull the hinge side toward you until it hits yet. Touching only the bottom, press the door frame side of the hinge out until it evenly.

Once you get the wedges amount of alignment between the amount of sales and stud opening, being careful not to give the amount in the opening. If necessary, use a ruler to keep it straight. I put shims behind every hinge and strike and also at the top and bottom of the strike side. I nail these wedges with two pins, one on each side of the stop.

The next step is to apply the doorway outside the door. Once done, you are ready for the door material. If all goes well, the bolt should engage the lock plate and the door should fit snugly against the stops.
