Simple Home Repair Chores For Your Home Improvement

There are many quick and easy home repair chores that you can perform when the weather outside is uncooperative. To be at your most efficient, make a list a head of time so you will be able to make one trip and gather all the supplies and tools that you will need. Keep all your basics in a small caddy and you will be able to take it from room to room checking off your tasks when you complete them.

When you are making your list, take a look first around in each room to find what needs improving or fixing. You can focus on the small things for quick results. An example would be, fixing your wobbling holder for toilet tissue or your sagging towel rack.

All you need to do is unscrew the fixture and then look to find the culprit. More likely than not it will be a plastic drywall anchor that has been pushed in. Pull the anchor out and then replace it with something that is more substantial. Using toggle bolts are the strongest choice and threaded types like easy anchor are very simple to install.

The classic squeaky door hinge is a very easy quick fix. You can eliminate the squeak by using powdered graphite and squirt it along the pin where the hinge will turn. If the door is sticking, you can plane off a small amount of the wood, and then use paint to touch it up so it is not noticeable.

Fixing the old creaky floorboards is also pretty simple. If you fasten them down tight, the squeak usually goes away. There are anti-squeak repair kits that are available on the market and they feature special screws that are designed to be easily concealed.

Another alternative is to take a little talcum powder and dust it into the seam where each of the floorboards meet. The powder will act as a lubricant and can help quiet the boards that are rubbing against each other.

Sometimes fixing the old rusty shut off valve can also be pretty simple. Check behind your toilet and under the sinks for your shut off valves on the water supply lines. We rarely use these valves and so over time they slowly start to rust in place, and unfortunately they will not work when we need them the most.

To help keep them functioning, use a little machine oil on the handle shafts. You can also use WD-40. Take the handle and twist it back and forth trying to work the oil into the threads. If they are really stuck, give it a couple of hours to start to penetrate and work and try to move the handles back and forth again.

These are just a few of the simple home repair jobs that you can perform yourself for your home improvement. All you need is a list, the right tools for the job, and soon you will be on your way to improving those little changes that will lead to your home improvement success.
